El Debarge Enters Rehad and Cancels Tour

15 Feb

Another one bites the dust…

El Debarge, who has been fighting a battle with substance abuse for years, has checked himself into a rehab. His label, Geffen Records, has released a short, yet official, statement by the artist in regards to him entering a drug rehab facility.

“I hate to disappoint my fans but it is necessary for me to take the time to work on me so that I may continue to share my music and my story with everyone. I thank everyone in advance for their prayers and well wishes and hope that you will respect my privacy during this time.”

BlackVoices claims that it was rapper and friend 50 Cent that aided the singer in checking into rehab.

Last year, while speaking to CBS News, El Debarge expressed sympathy for Bruno Mars and T.I who had recently made news after being arrested for drug possession.

“My heart goes out to Bruno Mars, my heart goes out to T.I. I know there’s a lot of people out there experimenting with drugs. I know. I did it because I was curious. I said, ‘Hey, let me try this.’ And it took me 22 years to un-try. I was praying the whole time while I was on drugs: ‘Oh God please, you got to get me off this. You got to help me.’ So he said, ‘OK.’ … Because I found out that God not only wanted me to have faith in him, but also to have faith in myself. And so once I did that, my confidence showed me that it was always there, I just had to believe it again.”

El Debarge was slated to kick off a Spring U.S. tour with Kem and Ledisi on Thursday, but now Musiq Soulchild has been brought on as his replacement.

I wish El Debarge nothing but the best of luck and support.
