Christina Aguilera Performs National Anthem At Super Bowl & Forgets Lyrics

7 Feb

Christina Aguilera performed the “Star Spangled Banner” during last night’s Super Bowl. In one of the biggest performances of her career, the singer forgot some of the words midway through the song. Instead of “O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming,” Aguilera sang “what so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last [unintelligible lyric].”

Traditionally most performs of the National Anthem are pre-recorded and then lip synced at the Super Bowl. For instance Jennifer Hudson and Whitney Houston both pre-recorded their breath-taking “Star Spangled Banner” renditions. Singing live just opens the door for potential risks like…forgetting the words.

But Christina isn’t a stranger to performing our country’s anthem. She sang the National Anthem flawlessly during The NBA Finals, so I don’t knock her confidence to perform live at the Super Bowl. It’s actually refreshing that a singer has confidence in their vocal ability! Some viewers didn’t even notice the slip up. Check out the video and pics.
