Chris Brown Tries To Lift Rihanna’s Restraining Order

30 Jan

Chris Brown wants to creep a little “closer” to his ex girlfriend Rihanna….well sort of.

The R&B singer appeared in an L.A. courtroom yesterday (Fri. Jan 28) for a probationary progress report hearing in the Rihanna domestic violence case. At the hearing, his attorney Mark Geragos asked the judge to remove the 5-year restraining order set in place 2 years ago when Brown pleaded guilty to assault charges.

Geragos expressed to Judge Schngegg how good his client has been doing over the past couple of years, having completed his court mandated 52-week domestic violence counseling sessions and nearly 600 hours of community labor (out of 1400 hours), and requested that the existing restraining order against Brown be removed.

“It makes it difficult at award shows and such,” Brown’s lawyer explained.

Unfortunately, the judge didn’t immediately grand the request, but did suggest a modification pending the approval of Rihanna’s attorney, David Etra, who Geragos phoned during a brief recess allowed by the judge. Etra said that he wanted to speak with his client before agreeing to the restraining order modification, which means that the decision to change it will have to be filed with the court at a later date.

Brown was praised (again) by Judge Schnegg for staying on track with his probation and keeping up with his ongoing commitment to fulfilling the conditions of his probation. Schnegg was so pleased with Chris’ progress, that instead of scheduling a future hearing, she told him that his next one can be the “next time you’re in town.”

Chris Brown will remain on probation until 2014.
